i got a carbed 1988 and most days it starts right up without a choke and i can do freeway speeds right after starting it, i am just REALLY easy on the throttle, very slow roll ons, dont get on it much until after 5-10 miles. it seems to like it this way, runs great, no stutter or miss, but it does it if i push it, which is just not right for a cold engine anyways
