Default to paint or not to paint?

Hey,

I have a 2002 883R/1200. I love the paint scheme, but when I put the brawler seat on I noticed that the tank and rear fender are badly scuffed from the stock seat rubbing on it. I love the look of the solo saddle, so I am thinking of getting the bike painted. Have any of you guys had experience with specific paint schemes from the factory being "re-painted" successfully, or should I go with an entire new look?

thanks.

Take a poloroid picture of your scoot from all sides and use colored sharpie markers to do your own paint scheme. You can also use dry ereaseable markers too. You might have to wait a while for tins from HD if you order painted from them for an '02.

If you love your current paint then just slap a fender bib on it.

I love the R scheme and wouldn't consider chaning the paint. If the paint is really scuffed and bothers you, just order a new color matched fender.

Lose the tank bra or you will be posting the same question about your scuffed up tank later down the road. Those bras do more damage than good.

I recently changed to a solo seat on my Sportster and the fender had the same scuff marks from the old seat. I was pleased to find that with a little Turtle Wax rubbing compound (the liquid) and not so much elbow grease, the paint looks like new again. Of course, if your heart is set on a new paint job. . .

i hate the tank bra too, but it's covering up the bare metal scuffs left from the original seat..it looks better than the scuffs. It really needs to be repainted. I will probably go to a local body shop and see what they can do. I have been on ebay looking for someone with an 02 or 03 R that wants to get rid of theirs original tins...no luck so far.
