I always like the oil threads. Lots of good experience coming out, which is what makes this forum great (that and the smack-talkin' )

But it never occurred to me to ask:

why is Syn3 crap?

 

I wouldn't say it's crap, but a lot of people don't like it because they try to pass it off as a synthetic oil when it really is a synthetic blend rather than a true synthetic like Amsoil. The other reason a lot of people don't like it is because of who makes it. (Citgo=Chavez)

 

I wouldn't use Citgo crap in even your car !!

Yeah, Chavez is a fool and a chump. He is now doing military exercises with the Russians in the Caribbean and just deported the US ambassador. If he wasn't the big OPEC mucky-muck in this hemisphere, he wouldn't be so high and mighty.

And shame on HD for passing it off as synthetic when it is a blend.

I'm running dino oil now, but am going synthetic this weekend when I do my 10K. Amsoil it is, for many reasons.

If you do some research you will see that it ranks at the hind tit of the oil HOG.

 

IMHO an oil that tries to do it all does neither well. Use gear oil in the gear box and motor oil in the motor. Wars have been started over oil however. Other people love the stuff. Use it if you want, ir don't use it if you don't like it.

 

FatTony, it is not a blend, and it has never been a blend. Syn3 is a full synthetic Group III, with possibly some Group IV PAO base stock included, motor oil. It is actually a good motor oil, well suited for use in HDs. The biggest gripes against it are its maker, CITGO, and that slightly better synthetic oils are available for sometimes slightly less, and often significantly less, money.

 

I needed a quart of Syn 20/50 yesterday so I go to AutoZone and bought a qt of Mobil1 V Twin Syn.... ALMOST $10.00!!!!!!!

well syn 3 isn't any cheaper. and if you like your motor to sound like it has a ton of bb's in it syn3 isn't so bad. i used it one time put about 500 miles on my bike and took it out.never will use it again to many better oil out there for the same price.

 

It is a full synthetic and you guys can debate it all you want but it is just your opinions based on nothing. Show me one study or report that shows it is crap. Thes oil threads are always so funny.
