Default HD brand SYNTHETIC or STANDARD?

While preparing for my first maintenance on my Sporty, I came across the HD Synthetic that says it can be used for both engine AND primary.

My 99 XL Custom has 14k miles.

Is there anything wrong with using HD synthetic from here on? Any bad feedback?

Myself, I like Amsoil 20-50 in crankcase and primary and 75-90 in transmission. Thats just my 2 cents worth.

Screw HD's semi-synthetic Syn-3 (made by Citgo). You can get Mobil-1 15w-50 (silver cap) full synthetic (Group IV) oil at Walmart in a 5 quart jug for about $23.00. For the Tranny/Primary, Mobil-1 75-90 Gear Oil, about $9.00 at Autozone.

Lots of us run that combo with great results, but that's just my .02

I like that idea, thanks. I want something good that I can get just about anywhere rather than driving to the HD shop every time. I use Mobile in my car and truck, love it....

So Mobile1 50w for the case/engine and Mobile1 75-90 gear oil for the Trans/Primary.

I'm wondering if that gear oil is good for dirtbikes too? Would be nice to go with one brand across the board. I'm using Belray 80w gear oil on my 2 stroke CR250 and Yamaha's premix for the 30:1 fuel mix.

Between 3 cars, 1 edger, 1-4stroke mower, 1-2stroke weedeater, 1 Honda CR250 2stroke, 1 Yamaha Vstar and 1 HD Sporty....I am about ready to pull my hair out. Either that or create a large chart and laminate it for a wall mount service guide. Remembering the plugs alone are insane.

Uses Amsoil 20W50 For all in my 04 Sportster with Great results... Also use Amsoil 20W50 Engine and Primary on the Heritage and Amsoil 75W110 for the Tranny ... But Mobil is good as well ... Will get a lot of opinions on this but am with Charley on the Citgo Oil can do better...

the owners manual for my nighster said to use only HD oil, or an oil "designed for Diesel Engines" Diesel? really? Sounds interesting. I know the "HD oil only" is just a marketing BS thing... but why not regular motorcycle oil? This is my first V-twin, and is currently at the dealership getting its 1000mile service (they threw it in for free).

My racebike only gets Amsoil 10-40.

Any 15w-50 or 20w-50 with at least a "CF" rating meets HD specifications and satisfies the diesel spec.

I would not use the Syn3, go with Amsoil 100% synthetic it is the best insurance for your motor. I use it in every motor I have and love it.

I am a fan of synthetic oil, but IMHO the syn 3 is crap. I run mobil 1 20-50 in my motor. I will probably go to a good synthetc gear oil in my primary next change.
