Need advice on solo seat with back rest
My 5' 3" female friend is ready to buy a Sportster 1200 low, but would like to put a very comfortable solo seat with a comfortable/adjustable seat back on it since she never intends to have a passenger. However, in looking at pictures of Mustang seats, they look much 'wider' and 'taller' in the area that Harley narrows up to make their shorter riders be able to reach the ground better.
Does anybody have any experience with a shorter rider and a comfortable solo seat with a backrest and if so, what brand and model.
Comfort is her number one concern, but being able to put her feet flat on the ground is a very close second. We appreciate your input.

Im 5 6" and went with the HD narrow seat solo. The rear shocks can be lowered a little, but the rider can change where they stop (do not take tire marks, but not the middle). Comfort has not been an issue, be sure of a narrow inseam. Also insure a good boot size, Any little hight helps, and not at just the heel.
I have a 1200XL, Back shocks are stock height. I would skip the back rest.

Check www.ccseats.com These seats are great, I run them on both my bikes (a two up e-glide & solo sporty). If you dont see just what your looking for , give them a call, they will shave foam, add foam... whatever you need. Ask for Chuck.

The Mustang does sit the rider up higher, but it has a narrow nose to allow easier reach to the ground...actually more so than the stock seat of the 1200, and effectively the same as the stock noses on the 883s. But the Mustang is decidedly taller than either stock seats. Mustang will also set the rider BACK a little, so I wouldn't recommend forward controls just yet.
Progressive 11" shocks will lower the bike about a 1/2" and noticeably better than stock. I haven't tried the HD branded Reach Solo, but I run the Reach two up on my Low. Much, much better than stock, and its wider surface area distributes the weight better. No tailbone hotspots like the stock seat tends to have. No backrest available on the Reach Solo, however.
I've had correspondance with Chuck at C&C seats, and they can build a seat to fit the rider's specific needs, as has been stated by 2007 FLHT.
bbaz100 is on the money, too. I personally would skip the backrest, too; and the "reaching the ground" tricks are valid. a half inch off the seat and/or a narrower nosed seat, a half inch off the bike with 11" Progressives, a half inch added to the boot sole/heel height, and we're talking about effectively extending the legs another 1.5" while improving comfort! Cool, huh?
What's her leg length? I am male with a 26" inseam and 28" leg length...2007 1200 Low and can't quite flat foot it in stock configuration. Reach two up seat, 11" Progressive Shocks, forward controls, and jiffy stand extender. Various boot heel sizes from 1.25" - 1.625". I can comfortably flat foot now and have enough leverage to back the bike up. I have 1,200 miles under my belt between two different stock 1200 Lows, and 10,000 miles on my current setup.
Reach Solo would be your cheapest fix. If she can comfortably flat foot the Low with the stock shocks, maybe the Mustang Solo with backrest would be the next best thing? C&C Seats next, then Corbin. As dbleagle mentioned, Corbin makes good, low seats with backrests and I really don't see how you can go wrong with them. ANY of the choices would be good IMO.

That would be Mean City Cycle, ask for Allen. He modified my HD solo reach seat so it sits 2" lower and alot more comfortable.
29" inseam, with 11" progressive shock set on mid preload (to prevent bottoming out), and extended kick stand.
Have gone 11k miles on this setup, never look back.
