Default '94 883 problem

Thinking of buying a '94 883 for my wife.15000 miles price may be $1600 to $2000.Depends on negotiation.
The bike runs but at idle it's mostly running on the back cyl.I can hear the front cyl kick in once in a while. After the engine was idling for about 5min.,the rearjug was hot and the front was not.
So what may be the probem?I'm thinking fouled plug, wiring, plug wire.coil or stator?
What would a stator cost?
I can do the work myself.
Just trying to figure in other costs.

Any help would be great!

I would surely pull out both plugs and see what is going on, the condition of the plugs may give you a good indication of a problem with the engine. But may be as simple as a new plug wire or the plugs themselves. Wouldn't be the stator unless you have a charging problem. For the price of the plugs, bring a new set with you and change them prior to purchasing the bike. $4 for Autolite plugs would be worth it to me. (Set a low price since it doesn't run right, pay the man, change the plugs and ride it home.) Maybe.....

My friend did that with a car once, car wouldn't start, fuel pump wouldn't work... gave the man just over scrap price, thought a minute, opened the trunk, reset the fuel-pump cut off switch and drove it home.... He said you should have seen the look on the seller's face.... priceless.

$1600 and you're gonna pass!?!?? For that price you could buy it, put in a whole new bada$$ elec. system, 1200 kit and still come out on top. If it aint the plugs, my guess would be the coil, which is only around $80 or so.

As sick says the price is right, a quick 5 minute compression test would tell you if there is a problem with the cylinder/piston/valves.
If that checks out good then you know it's a minor electrical problem, maybe plug/wire/coil.
