Rode The Wife's 1200 L Home 37 degrees!!
Brought my wife's new 1200L home Thursday afternoon in 37 degree weather. Needless to say it was really cold. Had a 43 mile ride on back roads to keep the engine speed down. One thing I noticed that I didn't like was the poping once in a while. I ended up pulling out the choke a little and it ran better, but eventually it started to pop agian once in a while. Whats up with that? She'll have a heck of a time ridding it if that happens too much. I'll be mentioning it to the dealer next time I see them, but until then, anyone know what's going on???
Thanks

I don't know the "in the weeds" details but I know both my Sporties pop a little when its really cold. They did this more before taxes were paid. But even now, they aren't too keen on cold air. Once they get to full op temp they are better but can still pop here and there.
My guess: Colder air = more dense air. New hogs run lean. Denser air means more air into an already lean bike....lean = popping. Cold and lean = more popping than normal.
Take it out during warmer weather and see if it runs the same. If so, have them check it out. Nothing lost from taking it to the dealer.

Brrrrrrrrrrr… That’s hard core, bro. I hope she appreciated the effort (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
I’ve never had muh Sporty ‘pop’, but then again I’m in Cali so it doesn’t often get that cold, and when it does it is usually raining so I cage it to work. Not because of the cold or rain, but because no one here knows how to drive…especially in the friggin’ rain. LOL…

I have an 06 1200 Custom with some pops too, mostly when trying to hold steady speed at lower RPMs. Dealer said to give it 1000 miles and try to stay within the break-in speeds (I'm trying, honest I am) and it would take care of itself. If not, even dealer said the stage 1 was the sure-fire cure. And, as already noted, it sure is a cold-blooded beast. Need some extra choke ("enricher") for several minutes longer than suggested in owner's manual. The 40 degree weather around here may have something to do with that.
