Hi, I use the Mobil 1 15w-50 from wal-mart but it doesn't say Extended performance. Might be a marketing change ? I put Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil in the other hole. Runs cool, shifts great. Altho I do use the K & N chrome filter also.......WVleo

Default flushing out

During an oil change, does anyone ever use the 4 quart change? Flushing out the engine with a quart of cheaper oil, maybe a light weight oil, before filling up? I wonder if this may help clean the engine a bit.

Hmm I just checked the Mobil site and it is different:

What is the difference between Mobil 1® Extended Performance and Mobil 1?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with a boosted level of protection and performance. Mobil 1 Extended Performance, with the Advanced SuperSyn System, contains 50 percent more SuperSyn than Mobil 1.
So perhaps I should buy plain old 15w50?

What do you guys do for a filter-remover wrench, if you don't have the official Harley filter wrench?

(edit)Whoops posted this just as rwjjr answered it!

Last oil change I punched holes in the end of the filter at the top and bottom allowing a half hour for the oil to drain. A couple paper towels at the base when removing the filter and no mess at all. Personally, I think many full synthetic oils will work fine.

Just go down the the auto parts store, here it was Pep Boys, they have the same type as the dealer but cheaper. And it is on the shelf ready to buy.
