Since I do not have a tach-o-meter,

What is the best speed to shift at?

1st to 2nd?

2nd to 3rd?

3rd to 4th?

4th to 5th?

5th to damn no more gears

1st to 2nd = between 25 and 30 feels like a pretty good shift point, IMO.

What are you riding? Also, there are a lot of these threads, but it seems like everyone likes to answer them every time haha. You just might be able to save yourself some time by searching.

 

...shift when you feel like it. Assuming you haven't changed your rev limiter... go ahead and hit it in each gear and see how it feels... power is created up high... if you want to accelerate hard, shift right before the limiter... you'll just get a feel though after riding a bit.

 

I dont have a tach OR a speedo! When should I shift! Just kidding, go by the seat of your pants. Do you look at the tach in your car when you shift? I dont.

You won't. There is a rev-limiter. Feel free to bounce off of it. You won't hurt anything. That's way better than lugging the engine. Seriously. Run it up, see where the gear runs out. Then back off from there. You will not hurt the transmission.

Lot of people ask this question.....this is motorcycleing 101....not to put anyone down as all who ride are respected, but maybe a new harley isn't the best choice for a first bike

 

ehh... it's all about your bottom line, how you ride, and how coordinated you are...

I'm glad my first (few) bikes were... dropable... so to speak... but I also rode the **** out of them come rain, snow or ice...

 

you should be able to tell. I have a tach and don't pay much attention to it.
