Default 07/08 how to tell by vin

Bought a 08 sportster 883c, i think. All the paperwork says it is a 08 but for some strange reason I was looking at the spare key and the tag says it is a 07. Could that be possible? I hope the dealer didn't slip one by me. If they did what can I do? But first need to find out what year thanks rich

The 10th digit should be the year code. In your case it is a number coresponding with the year. If it's a 7 it's a 2007, if it's an 8 then it's 2008

This is where I found the info.

I work at the assembly plant in Kansas city, and it is very possible that the key just did not change from year to year, and it is just an 07 part that is still used on an 08. In fact, it is very likely, because it is cheaper, I would not worry.
