Default trouble with my oil light

i have a problem with the oil light on my '06 883. it keeps flickering at me sporatically while i ride. sometimes it will stay on for minutes before going out, other times it barely lights up fully before going out. and everything in between those two things it does too. lol changed my oil early thinking it might have gotten gunky from sitting through the winter. but it keeps doing it and i keep checking my oil but its fine. does that light monitor primary fluid too? do ineed tocheck/change that? i checked the wires and they arent loose. im out of ideas. nothing in riding consistently sets it on or off. sometime i will ridefor days at a time without it flickering, sometimes i cant make it out of the drieway before its driving me crazy. i keep waiting for the motor to just seize on me. lol

If it were me Id ck the oil pressure. With a mechanical gauge as outlined in the 06 HD Service Manual. If the pressure is good then Id ck the sending unit.

+1 - It also might be just a bad oil pressure switch (sending unit). They are pretty cheap ~$14.00 so it may be worth just changing it.

The oil pressure switch went bad on my new sporty at about 1100 miles. To beat it all the dealer had just performed the 1000 mile service and I was on the way home from the dealership. Needless to say they fixed it promptly. Anyway, I would suggest replacing the switch first, if it still continues to flash and flicker then you need to get it to the dealer and let them check it out.
