Question Nightster Shocks

Has anyone changed out their shocks? I'm looking to find which made a solid differnce in regards to taking bumps and railroad tracks. I sometimes leave my seat and I really don't like that too much.

Progressive Suspension makes very good shocks... The current shocks you have on you stock 1200n are 11". Suspension travel is important in improving ride, but it also raises the bike a bit. The 412's are a good option that a lot of people seem to choose. It is never good to ask someone how much they weigh, but that is also important in selecting the springs rate on the shock. I am running 440's in a 13.5" length, but I really wanted more ground clearance, and a much improved ride..

I like my 412s - didn't like the price, but do like the shocks - vast improvement over stock. If you want a smoother ride, get some that are an inch longer than stock. When you do that, you will need to remove your rear muffler, which is not hard to do.

I went with the black 11.5" Progressives on my XLN, they smooth out the ride somewhat and I don't bottom out as often, but still, if you hit a major rut in the road at 45+ you need to be hanging on.

i went with the hd two up shocks for something more heavy duty since im a bigger guy im 6'3 260 so i wanted something i didnt bottom out and i just turned the preload all the way up. they look good just like the stock but with black springs. try adjusting your preload if you havent already it makes a world of difference.

I am contemplating the 412's but leaning towards the 418's, both in 11.5" for a little more travel. The 418's give you a little more adjustablility with the rebound dampening adjustment and are cheaper than the 440's.

Throw on some rigid rods...... That should make a "SOLID" difference!!

The Progressive 412's are a good choice, and I doubt if you would feel the difference in a more expensive shock. Not only will they cure the bottoming out, but they are made much more substantial and look great. The stock Harley shocks are junk.

The bike doesn't bottom out, unless it is a substantial bump in the road. I'm a petite lady, I just want to stay on the bike. If I hit a good size bump I am taken off the seat at least 5 inches and at high speeds it's a little scary.

I did 412's on my nightster, 11 inch. I'm 210 5-10 . It still bottoms out on hard ruts but the high way is night and day nice! It rides alot softer. 11 inch 412's all black all the way I say.
