been mostly a lurker/learner here.....great stuff everyone thanks.
I have a 06 1200r and commute 54 miles a day....looking to change out the stock seat for something that is more comfortable. I would really like to go with a spring seat set-up as I think it is a good look. My question is how comfortable are they? I weigh in the 225 range so I kind of figure I would preload all the spring out of the spring...any pointers would be great.
Thanks.

here yo can see the little tab needs to go under the pan and the lip goes under the tank
the flat "C" type bracket in the back near the rear fender also goes under the pan

the licks kit does not come with a pan to cover the ecm reaper. it's quite pricey but might be worth it imo. they even make the h/w for 04-up which i think utilizes the rear seat bolt on our bikes for the spring bracket. i've been doing lots of research on this and everyone's been pretty helpful, it's all a matter of which way you want to go with it. the licks kit is gonna run ya aorund 3 hunge and your still gonna have to find somewhere to put the ecm and plug the hole in the fender. i've learned that you can get a 04-06 (i think the 02 works too) sportster rear fender (with no hole for the ecm) cut the rear of it down and bolt it right up, looks like a nighty fender. or keep the nighty rear fender and plug the hole with sheet metal. the ecm is the problem. i'm thinking of buying the licks slimline solo, the 04-06 fender and get my local chop shop to fab me up a new battery cover (a little bigger than stock) to fit the ecm and pcIII. the seat pan (to cover the wires under the seat) i may fab myself or If I'm lucky enough get one from a forum member who had a few of them fabbed already. after all is said and done it's gonna cost some money. which is where i'm at right now, do i want to spend upwards of 5-6 hunge to get this done. shhhh, don't tell wifey.

Spring seats are barhopper seats and round town. I only weigh 145 and got rid of mine after only a couple months My Lepera Silhouette is actually more comfortable and much lower. It was cool for short rides and tolerable, granted mine was rigid mounted but for you with springs on a 1200R where the rear is higher your seat angle will pitch you fwd. (the rear of the seat will probably sit 2" higher than the front and be about 1-2" higher overall than your stock seat). Personally I would not put the money into it if you're looking for comfort on a daily driver. I still like the spring seats but they're more comfortable on a rigid frame bobber where the seat sits really low and is angled properly.
Thanks Capt....
