Default Vance and Hines Exhaust on an '08 Nightster

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to help a friend with changing the exhaust on his '08 Nightster. Please bear with me as he does not have internet access.

He wants to put a Vance and Hines exhaust system on his '08. The local dealer (where he bought it) is telling him to do upgrade the air cleaner at the same time.

Can the exhaust be changed without doing the a/c at the same time?? Since it is an '08 and has O2 sensors, is a tuner needed to make the changes listed (exhaust and a/c).

Please do not tell me to do a search on the subject. My internet time is very limited due to work. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
BK

It's going to need a re-map with the new exhaust, and u don't HAVE to upgrade the a/c but since the is getting remapped u might as well, because when u do decide to put one in it's going to get another remap... one swoop of the knife makes it less painful and expensive

Agree..., Go for the Air cleaner upgrade as long as he's doing the exhaust. A remap is necessary and if he does both he only pays for one remap. I was at the dealer few days ago and the ECM has two factory updates since May, so when he gets the remap he'll pick up the updates at the same time. Beats me what the updates do, but they're out there.

Default Exhaust

If you do slip ons you dont have to do anything but if you change the header pipe you HAVE to remap and change A/C or it will run like crap

Without the a/c and map it's gonna go pop pop-pop pop when you let go of the throttle or downshift. pop pop-pop pop!!
