Default Risers Ques.?

I have a 86 XLH with 12" ape hangers. I am looking to add about a 3" rise to them (so 15" to the top of the bars). How big should the risers be that I buy. I figure 6" risers should do. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do the stock risers have a 3" drop into the triple trees. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think you're going to count the drop. My way of thinking is if you have 12" apes now, whatever hight of riser is going to be your overall height.

If I'm wrong, please someone correct me.

Anybody know what the average Law says about how high they can be? I know up here in Canada there is a law, but haven't asked yet?

Thanks again for the help.

As Mike sed, different states = different laws. In general, though, most of 'em say 15 inches above the seat.

Most cops can't judge 15" from 6",,, no disrespect to any of our fine law officials but it's tough to tell sometimes,,,, but what is easy to see is if your hands are above your shoulder which is what most cops I have talked with measure by. Rule being,,, your hands cannot be over your shoulder height..... but that's here in the columbus ohio area,,,, what do we know anyway???

Here in cali they usually judge by the shoulders. Anthough The governator is repealing the ape hanger law.
At least he is doing that right. LOL
