Default 1200 carb question???

Hello all. I just rebuilt my brother in laws carb on his 2001, 1200C sportster. I was wondering if anyone knew the setting for the air/fuel screw on the botton of the carb, in front of the bowl. It was set at 3.5 turns out. Does anyone know if this is correct ? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but there really isn't an easy "one size fits all" answer" to your question but I'll give it a stab.

If the carb. is properly jetted, the mixture screw should normally be about 2.5 to 2.75 turns out when you complete the idle mixture adjustment procedure. If you are 3.5 turns out when you complete the mixture adjustment procedure, that's usually an indication that the pilot jet size is too small. You should try going up 1 jet size and repeat the mixture adjustment.
