Default ? about air filter

can anyone tell me if i needed to replace the gasket when i removed the airfilter box from the carb ? i looked at the gasket and it looked fine.. i know the manual called for it , but i see nothing wrong with the one on it.. i took it off to find the throttle adjustment screw.. found it and turned it down , started my bike and warmed it up for a sec and held it at throttle a little and then i saw the front pipe turn gold and cut it off.. guess i should'nt have held it throttle up to warm it up quicker..oh and thats with samson shorties , single wall pipes..thanks ahead for any help.

My rule of thumb is, if it holds liquid, replace, and if not, and it looks O.K., ride.
