Default Length of tire wear

I bought a Nightster in July of 2007. How long can I expect to ride on the new tires? I have 4400 miles on the bike now and it doesn't look like much of the tread is worn down at all. Anyone got an idea?

It depends on the tire and your riding style. A very aggressive rider can wear out a set of soft high traction tires in well under 3,000 miles. a conservative rider can often get 15 - 17,000 miles.

My bike has 10K miles on the original tires and there nowehere near needing replacement. From the looks of them I expect to get at least 15K, but I ride conservatively.

On my Supergide I got 10k on the rear 15k on the front. Those were the original Dunlops. I changed to Metzlers. In both cases I waited too long. The difference was huge.
Really. Huge.

Really depends on your riding conditions, even if you check them often to make sure they are at the correct pressure.

Motorcycle tires have a rounded tread profile, and not a 'flat footprint' like the tires you use on your cars or trucks. Because of that if the majority of your riding is on roads with few few (or gentle sweeping turns) the tread in the center of your tires will wear out much quicker than if you rode a lot of twisty roads.

I change my tires out at the 10,000 to 12,000 mile mark, which is probably more frequently than necessary, but with only 2 tires between me and the road I don't like to take chances..

But your 'mileage may vary' depending on your riding conditions and personal riding style.

I got 15,000 out of the stock Dunlops. Switched to Metzler and got 17,000 on the rear, and currently have 26,000 on the front. That's about all the front is gonna last. I have a replacement for it, just haven't gotten it put on.

I did my own mount this weekend. Got a couple tire irons from Harbor Freight.
I'm not real sure I want to do that again.
