I had a HD QD on my 883c and it was great. Now on my 883L I have a Memphis Shield El Paso and like it even better. I am not sure about the protection factor, they seem about the same but I can't be sure without trying them both again. However when considering how it looks on a Sportster, the El Paso is much nicer IMO.

It is off now to get air to the vents on my helmet, and the mounts still on the bike are hardly noticeable.

HD quick detach. I wasn't a huge fan of the looks at first but it's growing on me. I will say I love the less bug factor and the wind blockage on cool nights. If I have the Sundowner & backrest on I don't think my bike looks right without it now.

The HD quick detach came with my bike. I'd definately buy one if it had not. My wife & I put 150-300 miles a couple times a week thru East Texas, lots of bugs.

I too have a quick detachable windshield. I really like it. Like the others have stated it is very easy and quick to put it on or take it off. Keeps the bugs off of me.

speaking from past experience i had the hd quick detach its ok for bugs but if your looking for more cold weather riding there is one in jp cycles that is shaped like a bat wing fairing but its totally lexan. there is gonna be a huge difference due to the shape, now having a batwing on my ultra i can smoke a cig at 55 mph. theres no way i could have with a quick detach. but i bet if i had the one shaped like the bat wing i probably could, boy i sure miss my 04 1200c i should have never traded it in.

Couldn't tell you how many folks run long distance on Sporties. I know of a couple and they're far more hardcore than I am.

My best mileage is about 43mpg, but I generally get 35 or so. I'm not exactly light on the throttle, if you know what I mean....

My best day is 1250 on this Sporty. My best day on any bike is 1450 or so. I'm hoping to increase that to an even 1500 before too long.

My biggest bitch about the Sporty is stopping every 100-150 miles for gas. I'm making some modifications and hopefully my range will hit 500 miles.

Hey,my hat is off to anyone that can do that many miles on any bike in one day. That's covering some serious ground.See,I don't do a lot of highway miles. If I did,no doubt I would have a QD windshield. Most of my riding is back country roads with little traffic and the occasional stop sign and red lights.
In a few years,I'd like to get a touring bike so I can eat up the superslab in comfort.Maybe a Road King or a Street Glide.
I never paid attention to my MPG.I just stop and fill up every 100 miles. That does get to be a PITA,but I don't like the feeling of a sputtering bike and having to reach for the reserve.

I've got the HD detachable that fits my aux lights. Just put it on for the first time this season, not much long distance riding this year. Riding with the shield on or off is like day and night, won't do any long distance trips with out it anymore. Hey bacon how are you going to get 500 miles per tank? Put a 5 gallon aux tank on the luggage rack? Do tell.
