I used a heat gun and peeled them off slowly. Goo-b-gone works wondered for the remaining adhesive.

best tip I got was to slice 'em off with dental floss or fishing line. Then goo b gone or wd 40 to remove whatever's left...

Actually, the "BEST" way is to spray'em down with the WD40 while the bike sits in direct sunlight to heat up the fork tubes. Let the WD soak in for about 10 minutes while you go back into the air conditioning and suck down some suds, and then walk back out later to gently peel them off....Don't forget to take a rag to wipe off the excess WD & glue.

Too easy! hmmm what would the service manual say... wait, I know:

Note: FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES BELOW WILL RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY, DISMEMBERMENT OR DEATH. VIOLENT, HORRIBLE DEATH!!!

Step 1 - disconnect battery
Step 2 - drain and remove gas tank.
Step 3 - remove front wheel
Step 4 - loosen triple tree bolts and remove front forks.
Step 5 - drain and disassemble forks
Step 6 - Using 1 gallon HD Paint and Reflector Removal Solution®
(part # 873607451) Immerse lower forks in tub of solution until paint
and reflectors dissolve.
Step 7 - repaint, reassemble and reinstall forks and wheel.
Step 8 - replace gas tank
Step 8 - consult Authorized HD service center to check your work.

That's it! Simple.

+1 Dental Floss and Goo Gone. Was simple and took maybe 5 minutes. The look is day and night. Really looks good without them in the front.

Sportster owners have it made.

In the Softail manual they also recommend removing the pistons and camshafts before removing any reflectors.

Actually, fishing line and cheap WD40 works as good as anything.

Thanks for bringing this up, I was about to ask the same thing about removing the reflectors.
