GPS on Sportster pics
#51
That little brass padlock is an American Tourister lock for luggage zippers. The mount is a Ram Mount Aqua box. On this trip I had the box turned around so the lock was down by the switch housing, but the lock chewed up the housing pretty good. Flipped it over like you see in the pic. Works well, but flipping it around has created a potential moisture vulnerability, as you can see in THIS pic. Also note the shorter arm! I like it.

Yes, it's soft and the gps interface is fully functional. Kind of like a rubberized vinyl. Of course, you can't reach the power button without opening it up, but it's nice. Also note the DC power cord is semi-permanently attached to the box. Four screws (only fits one way) remove the back mounting plate; then the cord can be removed. I cut a half moon with a drill bit slightly larger than the cord. It's baffled, so as to reduce the chance of moisture entering, but like I alluded to before, with the cord coming straight out and up like it is, it creates a potential vulnerability. I may take it to the self-serve car wash to test it out (without the gps inside, of course!). The box will fit your Magellan nicely, too, if you decide to get one. Size medium wide.
