The dealership wants how much???
Just got my 02' 1200 Sportster last week. \\; Today I went to the local dealership to see about an oil change. \\; The price they quoted me was $150 parts and labor for a synthetic oil change. \\; Is this the going price for this type of work or is the dealership trying to make a few bucks off a new guy?
 \\;
For what it's worth, I bought the oil and filter and will be doing it myself. \\; Even doing it myself the price of the oil and filter still came to $60.00.

RE: The dealership wants how much???
I guess the answer is are they trying to make a buck?Sure they are the shop has bills to pay.You can't stay in business if you sell things for what you pay for them and provide free labor when you pay an employee to perform a service.I don't know the going rate for a dealership oil change because I always have done my own.They say they check fasteners and adjustments during the service as well.I kinda doubt it since the guy doing the service probably is a newbie that wouldn't know how.

4.95 a qt times 3 = 15 bucks 6.95 a qt trans = 22 8.95 a filter/black = 31 and 2.95 times 2 for plugs = a whopping total of 37 bucks every 2500 to 3000 miles on my sporty
granted you use syn which is more money but at 37 bucks I can afford to do a complete fluid change with plugs almost twice for every one of your oil changes. I know some of you are thinking why change the plugs every 2500 miles......... cause its 6 bucks and I can. And this was on my nightster not the SG.

I don't mind the dealership making a profit, hell, we all have to survive. There is a difference in making a profit and raking someone over the coals. \\;I was told the oil change would take less than an hour so that would be a labor rate of about $90 per hour plus the profit they make from the parts.

PRICE CHECK!! Apparently oil went up to 6.49/qt from the 4.95/qt I last paid. So Im looking at 42 bucks for my usual 2500 mile service. But still, compare that to the dealers cost for one oil change and your still ahead of the game by a **** load. Plus oil/filter change, primary fluid change and new plugs takes me all of 30 minutes tops to swap out so dealers who are charging 60/hr or worst more are smoking crack, then again I have very little overhead doing it in my garage.
