2006 883L exhaust
hey guys, i was just curious about my exhaust.
I would really like to take the baffles out of my pipes but theres a catalyst in there. my dealer told me that with the 2005's all you needed was a circle drill to take them out. he told me if i find a way to take them out with the catalyst to let him know. i'm just wanting to do this because i dont have enough money for different exhaust yet... has anyone else ran into this that knows what i can do?
thanks for the help.

aroz34,
I see this appears to be your first post, so welcome to the Forum!
I'm assuming you have a 2006 Sporty since the '05's and earlier DO NOT utilize catalytic converters in the mufflers. I strongly advise you NOT to modify or destroy your stock mufflers as you may need to put them back on someday to pass the emmissions test we will all eventually have to pass (I'm afraid sooner rather than later).
My advice would be to buy '05 or '06 stock slip-ons on eBay that go for little money ($30-$40)and drill THEM out (assuming they fit the '06's, and I believe they do). This way you'll always have your stock mufflers for passing the emmission's test when we're saddled with it. My 2 cents worth...

You might want to hang on to those CAT mufflers; you may in the future need them. You can pick up pre-06 mufflers dirt cheap and chop them up. You'll never be satisfied with the sound, though. Not sure what's going to happen with SE IIs, but if you can find a set, grab 'um.
(Thumper and I posted at the same time... Yeah, what he says!!)

RE: 2006 883L exhaust
I just bought a XL883 Custom six weeks ago and checked with a number of places about removing the baffles. No one would touch them because of the catalytic converters. For older bikes most places have the drill (I even found a Harley Dealership that would have taken them out if it weren't for the catalytic converter).
So, today, I bought a new exhaust system. I bought the Vance & Hines Straight Shots and the SE A/C kit. Everything should be installed/rejetted in about 10 days (when all the parts come in).
I considered slip-on's and was told that, for the price, I wouldn't see that much in performance. As for sound, they would make the bike about 5 decibles louder at best. That for about a couple of hundred dollars more I could get exactly what I wanted as far as sound and performance go. So I bought it.
