Default starters for 76 sportster

I am sure someone has asked this question how can you tell the difference between hitachi and prestolite starter, I bought used with prestolite but it has burnt 2 and I am thinking it isn't right ? any suggestions ?

I'm pretty sure the Hitachi was metric and the prestolite were SAE bolts holding it together
