Im in the same boat (I know this thread is old), what grips do yall recommend to replace the stock ones?
I have pretty big hands and the Harley Nostalgic ones are very comfortable, but they aren't flashy if you're goin for the looks. I also like the fact that they have ridges in them, helps keep the sweating down as happenes with other grips.
That said, I'm probably gonna switch to the Kuryakyn Iso's at some point.
The grips on my 2000 model were glued on, and I think the tech at the plant used a whole freakin' tube of glue on just my two grips alone. \\; I had to cut them off and scrape the bars/throttle sleeve for hours to get all that chit off. [:@]
My 2000 883 was the same way! Both sides glued on and a real B%tch to get off! Ended up shaving with a razor knife....
I was told that starting in 2006 the grips are not glued on. Not sure about that, but when I replaced the grips on my 06, it was not glued. Came off pretty easily.

Left side on my 07 1200c was glued. Opened up my knife and took no time to remove it. No point in saving those rubber POS grips.
A trick I have used to remove glued on grips is this: Take a wire clothes hanger and cut a section of wire several inches longer than the grip. On one end bend it into a little crank handle. Insert the wire into the grip - turn the little crank and the wire will rotate all the way around the grip breaking the seal and allowing you to easily remove the grip and reuse it.
I wonder if it is a regional thing. The bikes are assembled at the plant but I believe the dealers have to install some of the smaller items once they get the bike out of the crate. The grips might be one of those items.
no the bike comes out of the box the as you see it the techs only have to adjust brakes, bars, other controls and put on windshields and such check tire pressure etc
