Default Porkster Tank

I bought the Porkster Tank and will be doing the prep work and painting myself. I have a bit of auto body and painting experience but haven't done it in years. Anyone know of a good quality lacquer paint in a spray can that they can recommend? Any input is greatly appreciated. Oh I will be painting it black and deciding on putting flames on it or just buying a harley sticker. (still up in the air)

If you've done autobody painting, then you know it's near impossible to get a really decent finish with spray can paint, no matter who makes it. The primer in spray cans works OK if you do the finishing sanding on it. If you know a good shop in your area, getting the job done with the right stuff shouldn't cost much at all and be worth the "factory finish."

JK, if you have a little experience, you'll know you can't get the painted finish you want without a hellova lot of extra prep work and wet sanding. Personally I've never had much luck with the spray-can application.

I painted mine a little over a year ago and was wanting to use laquer and the paint shop talked me out of it. They reccomended Urethane. So I went with it.
It worked better than the Clearcoat/Basecoat, and more durable than laquer.

Check out my link.

Darn. I figured the cans were still garbage, I was hoping someone would have something that worked though. There's a guy around the corner from my house who paints bikes I will ask him how much he will charge to paint the tank.

Yeah, the prep work takes a lot of time and you have to be really patient. I expect to do lots of wet sanding, etc... I will just take my time until it is perfect.

JD, where are you located. If you are not too far from Maryland I may be able to hook you up with a gentleman I work with that does terrific work on the side. PM or e-mail me and see if I can't help you out. The spray bomb will leave you very disapointed with the results. inthechateau@gmail.com .
