Default What size is the retaining ring on the foot pegs?

I got a new set of foot pegs and I grab the 10 or so pairs of retaining ring pliers I have to try to pop the ring off without damaging it so I can reuse it and I don't have anything that will fit in the little holes on the ring. I want to swap these things out but don't want to spend a butt load on tools to swap out some cheap foot pegs.

Any suggestions or anybody know the correct size so I can order just one set of retaining ring pliers?

I just used a pair of small needle nose pliers. Held the ring from spinning with a flathead screwdriver, grabbed the other part with the hole, and gently pulled out and down. Once ya get a bit of it out of the slot, you can work it off. To get it on, slide one side into the slot, and the rest just snaps in. Was pretty easy. I mean, you could get the proper tool, but what fun is that?

When I changed my pegs I replaced the ring with a nice bolt and locking nut.&nbsp\\; I have to say those are the two bolts/nuts that I DON'T have to worry about vibrating loose...&nbsp\\; They look great and I don't have to trust to those little rings.&nbsp\\;

I just went to t6he local autozone and picked up a 6 pack of assorted e-clips for a couple of bucks.&nbsp\\; Had no problem finding ones that fit the pins and didn't have to worry about finding snapring pliers that would fit.

I bought a snap ring plier set with four different heads from Advance Auto for 15 bucks and took a file to the smallest one until it fit.&nbsp\\; I figured with three other heads I could afford to file the diameter of one down.

Default Circlip Pliers

So you know...I work for KNIPEX

For most of the small Circlips on a Harley you can use pliers with size 0 or 1 tips. For transmission work sizes 1 and 2, Just don't use a small size Circlip pliers on a big Circlip. Even though it fits, using a small pliers on a bigger clip will break the pliers tip off.

At the bottom of this page you will see a chart that will help:
