\\;\\\\\\;It's not going to hurt a thing you just need to make certian you keep up on your oil changes and make certian that you regularly go out on a longer ride to get rid of all the water that builds up in the \\;\\\\\\;oil from condensation, just watch for any white milky looking crap on your dip stick, if you see some it's time for a good long ride to cook the moisture out of the oil.
\\;\\\\\\;I ride my bike about 3 miles to work and have been for 8 years and it hasn't hurt a thing.

yeah funny that, I brought my first bike for the convenience of getting around traffic, back then rides would take 30mins and i'd be at work on time. Now i seem to be getting later and later...... "sorry boss but the traffic was a beatch today"
Seriously though the beauty of the carby was you would know when it was warmed up.

I fire it up wait 30 sec and then its off to work!!!!! Definitely not good for it but hey what are you going to do, its better than pissing off the neighbors!

I never understood (except for carbed bikes that need a little warm up time so they don't cough and sputter or die in an intersection) why people sit there and warm up an fuel injected bike. Just ride it. Is riding it immediately gonna prevent it from warming up somehow?

RE: Is this bad for my bike?
I work two miles from home, and I ride whenever I can. On the way home, I might do a few errands, but all within a five-mile radius. My bike is fuel-injected. No issues, except for MPG, which is pretty miserable with a lot of short hops (>40 MPG). On evenings/weekends I get in as many 50+ mile rides as I can,, but in colder temps I have gone through whole tanks of just in-town short hop riding. Oil has always looked fine, no chocolate milk yet.
Yet, I know it would be better to ride it for 30 miles or 30 minutes every time I turned it on. But it's no worse than doing the same with your car, which no one would think twice about. Just stay on top of your bike's oil, and try to take the long way home when you can, for the battery of nothing else.
