Default Carb problem when hot

My '06 1200C just started having a problem at idle and I'm hoping that someone can give me some ideas!&nbsp\\; Bike runs great when cool and also fine when on the throttle when hot.&nbsp\\; When I stop at a light and the bike is hot it won't respond to the throttle at times.&nbsp\\; Sounds like it isn't getting any gas and I have to slowly bring up the revs to get it to respond.&nbsp\\; Sometimes takes a few tries before I can get it to rev up.&nbsp\\; Not a great situation in a busy intersection!&nbsp\\; Thanks in advance for any input.

Funny to see this pop up- today rode home- from 95 degrees and 5280 elevation to 75 degrees and 8500 elevation- stopped and filled up the tank, and when I went to start back up the bike didn't want to. It took several cranks and then opening up the throttle in order to get it to idle again. I figured vapor lock (and jamming as much gas as possible in the tank), but wanted to post to get opinions.....

when you twist the throttle hard, does it cough or choke? or just plain not respond at all? does it hover at high RPMS when you let off the gas? or "hunt" for idle speed? could be running lean, but i think it might be vapor lock. covre your fuel line with a plastic heat guard. might help, i know my gas line runs right by the cylinder head, touching it. the head sheild helped.

Twist the throttle and it feels at first like it wants to go and then seems to starve out.&nbsp\\; Doesn't happen all the time but only when warmed up.&nbsp\\; First time it happened it was really hot and humid out so I thought it was heat related.&nbsp\\; But last couple of times it was 75 degrees and bike wasn't that hot.&nbsp\\; Is there a filter in the fuel line somewhere that might be clogged up just enough where it only affects fuel delivery at idle?&nbsp\\; Thanks for the responses, I'm scratching my head with this one.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same issues with my '04 1200 Custom - 311, did you have any luck diagnosing or solving the problem?

Default Trouble Coming Off Idle Hot

What you've described is a typical crank position sensor failure. They work fine cold, idle & run fine. Hot they crap out. Cool off and they're okay again.

Refer to your manual and pull up the DTC codes on your speedometer. If you see a P0373 or P0374 that's crank position sensor. Lack of DTC codes doesn't mean all is well. They sometimes can screw up and NOT throw codes.

Some people are on their 3rd or 4th crank position sensor. Some now carry spares. I think Harley is on revision "D" now.

Thanks Bentwrench. After finding other posts on the crank sensor, I ran the DTCs and sure enough that was it. I put a new one in yesterday - hope it lasts.
