V&H Slip ons
\\; \\; \\; I just picked up a 2008 883L for my wife, I also bought the stage 1 air cleaner which I haven't installed yet. Then I ordered V&\\;H slip on mufflers. My question is has anybody installed these without doing a download?? A buddy told me I won't have to do it, that the bike will run fine??? Anybody change there mufflers without doing anything else? Your imput is valuable.

I put V&\\;H Straightshot sliplons on my 08 883C. Also put on an Arlen Ness Satge 1 and a PCIII. If you put the pipes and the stage 1 on, you are going to need something to regulate the fuel for the new setup, otherwise you'll fry the engine. I went with the PCIII and love it. I know people who have used the V&\\;H Fuel Pack and have sold it to get a PCIII. You can order the PCIII from fuel moto and tell them what your setup is (pipes, A/C, what kind of bike) and they will program the PCIII based on what Dynojet's map of your setup is (for free!!), then ship it to you. Plug it in and you're done.

\\; \\; \\; I was just scanning the forum, and found other people saying if you just change the pipes and not the air cleaner you won't have to re-map. So now I'm confused as hell. Also other people are saying that the SE mufflers don't need re-mapping at all.

Changing only the mufflers doesn't alter your air flow appreciably\\\\\\; you'll still be constricted by the air cleaner. So, if you're change ONLY the mufflers, a download is not necessary. If you do a Stage-1 upgrade, which includes the full-flow air cleaner, a download or a control module is mandatory\\; the factory settings are already lean, and you'll just get "leaner". Even the new HD download will be on the lean side for EPA considerations, and that's why many go with the Fuelpak, PC-111, etc.

RE: V&H Slip ons
Have a 2008 883L - Replaced the stock mufflers with a pair of the RUSH slipons \\; (2") baffle. \\; \\; NO problems what so ever in performance etc etc. \\; \\; My understanding is that if you also do the Air Filter you need to remap the EFI.
But I've also read that is debatable too....... \\; \\; I know one thing if you ask your service guy at the dealer he will \\; tell you that you need to remap even with just adding the slipons [:@]
