hey guys is there anything special u need to do to an 883l to ride a passenger besides seat and pegs someone told me i needed new shocks

 

Depends on your weight.&nbsp\\; A 225 lb rider will bottom out the stock rear shocks fairly easy.&nbsp\\; Depends how aggressive you ride, and the road conditions of course.&nbsp\\; Two up riding will most certainly bottom out the rear shocks unless you are both lightweights.&nbsp\\; Many recommendations for Progressive 412 rear shocks, and others.

 

Are those progressives really $270 EACH? So over $500 for a pair of shocks?

 

on my 04 883c i ride two up the factory shocks have an adjustment on the bottem that preloads the spring on the shock dont have any problems unless we hit a big pothole in which case i dont think any shock will absorb it see if you can adjust yours before spending 500 bucks

No! 412's are MSRP $270 per pair, but you can get them for around $200 at some places.

 

+1 to what Dorkman said. And if you can swing it, a sissybar with backrest. Your passenger&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;will feel much safer, and you will have a place to hang a bag of some sort to carry stuff.

 

The 412's are the cheapest shocks Progressive offers. (around $200.00 give or take) For another 100 bucks or so you can get nice shiney covers with them (aka the 812 series) Same shock, but with pretty covers. Skipping to the high end, Progressives 440 Series shocks will set you back about $625.00. Yes that is in dollars, and it is for two motorcycle shock absorbers. Is this a Ripley's moment or what?????Kinda makes me sick actually...[:'(]

 

I have a 07 883L an added the progressive 412 shocks backrest and have no problems. I even keep the settig of the shocks at 3(middle). Myweight is 170 and my wife is 140.

As far as things to do to you 883......1200 conversion!

 

the stock shocks are fine for now. Set up the preload some and you'll be ok. You should get some sort of backrest for your passenger though, along with the seat and pegs.
