You can get a heat shield (chrome) that will clamp on the pipe at the problem area. I have forward controls with drag pipes on my 01 and ran into the same problem. Here is a link.

Sonetimes I ride with my legs tucked in and sometimes with my knees in the wind. I've never felt any heat at all... (I do wear long pants though)

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and new to H/D. I recently purchased a 2008 Sportster 1200 Low.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;I love the bike, except that I keep burning the inside of my right calf on the exhaust.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;Perhaps this is a stoopid question, but does anyone have a solution?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;(other than riding with my right knee waving in the wind.)
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
i posted the same question about two years ago and got the same smartassed replies you got from all these chicken leg riders.i have the same problem and if i am riding over to the nieghbors house i am not going to put on pants (thats to all of you who whine shorts are not appropriate) well anyhow you are not alone and i have&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; very large calf muscles,thats the only reason i can figure out why not too many others here have the same problem they must have chicken legs.bok bok
&nbsp\\;
LOL, I have been a distance runner for, well lets just say a long time.&nbsp\\; My calves are most likely the size of your chest...LOL, and I don't burn my LEGS, shorts or not.&nbsp\\; Not that I would EVER ride in shorts.. Those of you that do will end up with more than a leg burn at some point in time..&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; I would go with the guy that suggested a recall.&nbsp\\; Been a LOOOONG time since I ran stock exhausts...soooo.

Sorry.. can't help it.... not meaning to be a smart-a$$... this is meant in jest... but I think your problem has something to do with natural selection or something similar... if you put your leg against something really hot enough times, eventually you learn to avoid doing it.

Kardoc, I guess you did not read my response - I don't wear shorts or flip-flops.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; (Not that flip-flops would affect the burn on my leg)

All B.S. aside... which part is burning your leg? The down pipe from the rear cylinder? Or are you catching the front muffler with your feet down at stops?

Hi folks,

Thank you one and all for your responses - I got a lot of good laughs!

After I decide whether I am getting new pipes, I will get shields.
&nbsp\\;
I promise I am NOT riding with flip-flops or shorts!&nbsp\\;
