Default Need help. losing oil....

I have a friend that has a 95 1200, she is losing oil rapidly. Its not leaking anywhere but blowing out the carb, She rode about 50 miles and had to add 3/4 quart. I havent had a chance to look at it yet but wanted to get some Ideas. I am thinking a Valve seal went. It does not have the breather installed either. It started last summer and has progressively gotten worse. At first I thought she might be over filling it but She assured me she wasnt. It does smoke more than normal.....any input would be appreciated.

Valve seals&nbsp\\;or blocked oil drain holes in the rocker boxes. How many miles on the scoot? Just FYI, sportster.org has some good resources on this also.

Thanks Zimbob, It has around 7k on it. She bought it early spring last year and put about 3k on it trouble free. The bike did sit for a year before she bought it but I would think with 3k miles of riding a problem would have started earlier.I was thinking maybe rings? I havent had a chance to look at it but will in a couple days and know more then.

maybe worth looking at the rocker umbrella check valves........especially if the rocker gaskets were ever changed, maybe the two rockers got switched around with the umbrella valve on the wrong side, which would result in contanst oil spitting out the heads to get sucked back in to the carb and burned off. &nbsp\\; I've scene two people do this before. &nbsp\\; Or that rubber umbrelly valve could be damaged. &nbsp\\; Fairly easy to spot if you run the bike with the a/c cover off and watch the breather holes. &nbsp\\; I'd look for that first, then check valve seals after that.&nbsp\\; then from there I'd look at the the piston rings and do a compression test, although the rings probly wouldn't result in oil spitting back through the carb.

Honestly, a top end kit and a carb rebuild would do it up just right IMO.&nbsp\\; Even though it's low mileage, it's still an older bike (13 years) and it could benefit from it regardless.
