Primary chain adjustment on 07 sporty
Is this how its done:
 \\;
1. Secure and lift motorcycle till rear wheel comes off the ground.
2. Remove Primary chain inspection cover and gasket.
3.Turn primary chain to find tightest point on the chain. Measure chain free play at this point.
4. Check primary chain free play at the upper chain run midway between the sprockets.
5.To adjust chain: Loosen the primary chain adjuster locknut. Rotate the adjuster to obtain desired chain free play. Turning the adjuster clockwise decreases free play.
6. Tighten primary chain adjusting locknut to 20-25 ft-lb. Recheck free play.
7. Reinstall primary chain inspection cover and a new gasket. tighten the cover bolts to 40-60 in.-lb. Lower motorcycle

RE: Primary chain adjustment on 07 sporty
I have never done step three, I always just check it wherever it is sitting, is that a problem? is there that much variance depending on the location that it really matters? if so, how do you "turn the primary chain"? would you not have to put it in gear and remove the plugs to be able to turn it by rotating the rear wheel?

RE: Primary chain adjustment on 07 sporty
I have read that some riders adjust the primary chain by this method. Start Bike, Put in nuetral, let engine get warm at idle. Use adjuster to tighten chain till you start to hear a whine, then back off 1/8 of a turn. I dont know if i would use that method myself.
