Default speedometer

hi all.... this is my first real bike and the only problem i have is i dont know how fast ima goin..... my speedometer is stuck @ 20mph whether its on off or going 65mph...... my digital odometer counts miles...... i dont know if its accurate or not.... i think its the vehicle speed sensor(vss).....any input would be awsome... ty 1997 harley sportster xl883

It doesnt sound like a sensor to me, when minewas shorting out, the odometer went too. the sensor is like $65.00 ifI recall. Mine was not the sensor, the plug.pull the sensor, clean it, it may have metal shavings or something stuck, secure the plug good and try again before you run out and buy a sensor. I now have an extra sensor for an 05 custon1200if anyone needs it for $20.00. PM if so.
