Default Windshield/head in a paint shaker

Hello! After a 30 year lay off, I got back on the road again. Question is: I bought a 1200 cutom with a windshield that was not made by Harley. My first ride in 30 years was about 10 miles. My head felt like it was in a paint shaker. I got home and pondered what was doing it. I took the windshield off and found that it was the problem. I am 6' tall. This windshield measures about 19" high by about 12" incheswide at the very top. Any recommendations on another windshiel would be appreciated. Bill

I use H-D's Quick Detach Shield in cold weather with no problems. They're pricey ($330.00+) but worth it.

I don't like the look of a windshield on a Sporty, but they are great in cold weather and on the highway. Best thing I have ever bought.

Wouldn't the height and angle contribute more to his problem than the brand of shield??

Hawg295, You didn't mention it. Were you wearing a helmet (which can exagerate the effect)?

I'm about the same size as Hawg295 so it stands to reason that what works well for me should work well for him, hence the H-D QD reco.

They don't come in different sizes?? Sounds about right for H-D.

I've been told that the "correct" fit for a windshield is that the top of it comes parallel to the tip of your nose - you should be able to look just over it, not by a huge amount, but over - and not through it.

I have a quick detach Memphis fat, 15" on my Nighster for highway riding. It works great - I still getwind in my face, but it makes it so I don't feel like I'm being blown backward off the bike. No more neck problems. (I LIKEsome wind in my face- some people believe it or not think a windshieldshould make it so you have NO wind).

I had an 883 for a while, with a Harley "sport" shield. I had a lot of buffeting with that to the point thatwhen I first used it,I thought something was wrong with the bike because Ialmost couldn't keep it on the road!! I don't know if it was because it was a lot narrower, or actually if it was because a lot of wind was coming up underNEATH it, but I didn't like it much.

If you are wearing a helmet with a visor, try taking the visor off the helmet and see if the shaking effect goes away.
