As I have posted in the past, my wife has picked the bike she wants, a 1200L, she sat on the bike and loved it, she also sat on the deluxe and street bob and did not really like them. What do you do when you suggest a honda or yamaha for first bike, she says aint I worth it. Anyway everyone I talk to that owns a Harley says dont buy the sporty, she will out grow it, it will not keep up with the road king on road trips Blah Blah Blah. I have never owned a Harley but I am ordering mine next week, she is going in July for the MSF class. Anyone have this problem with people telling you not to purchase a bike cause they say it wont keep up or you will out grow it. 1200 cc motor on a light frame, seems like lots of power and speed that will say up with a road king, we only travel as fast as our slowest rider so I know I will have to keep up with her. Sorry for long rant but I feel the 1200L is a good bike for her and I don't think she will out grow it, new seat, windshield for longer trips, highway pegs for stretch, good to go.

Well I don't know that she would "out grow it", but then again... it aint no road king....
Ask yourself... why you are getting a road king and then see what answers appy to her as well...
I'm around 6' 3" and 220 lbs and ride a Sportster... it carrys me well... but again, it aint no Road King...

I was looking at the Ultra for both of us to ride together, she said she wanted her own, had her sit on several bikes, she was intimidated except the 1200L, the road king is what she wants me to get, I love the road king and with it being her idea makes it even better. I figured as long as we are both happy, that isall that matters at leastI hope

Who's buying the bike you or the other people? She said she likes it, then thats it. She is happy with it. Thats it. Shure the Sporty isn't a Road King. You cann't compaire apples to oranges, But it still gets the job done. 70 mph on the sporty is 70 mph on a road king. *warning* my own little rant. Why can't we just be content with what we have. If it works then we don't need more.If you want to start out on a Road King, then thats fine. Get what makes you both happy and don't worry about out growing it. Out grow it when the thing has run it's course and it just time to get a new bike.

Yeah. Buy the 1200L. She's not gonna out-grow it.
But my advise is that you are getting what you are paying for. Don't buy a Sportster and expect it to be a big touring machine and don't buy a Road Kin thinking its gonna be a fast, manuverable bike. They each have their own purpose.
