Default changing oil tank cover, have a question

On a 2007 883 sportster I am looking to dress it up a little by changing the stock black oil tank cover wiyh chrome ones. Is there a trick in removing the existing cover. The battery cover pops off easy by not the oil tank cover. Any help!!

I found the easiest & safest way is to remove the seat and then pry up and out from under the upper lip of the cover with a screwdriver.
And don't forget to remove the dipstick first.

Just pry slow..... so it doesn't pop and fall.

There is less chance of damaging the paint if you pop it up from inside the upper lip IMO, and easy to do with the seat off.

How are the clips that hold them in? Are they curved up alittle? I'm going to have to remove mine case that little trim that the dip stick goes through is losse on mine. It wiggles alittle. Can it be tighten down?

Its been so long ago that I did mine... but I thought they had one phillip screw at the bottom side of the cover....

Could be wrong though...

Pop it off from top using large flat screwdriver against top of frame and under lip of cover......pry top of cover up off two rounded plastic buttoms while you pull away from bike....then it will fold over and allow you to unhook from bottom catch.

BUT....you will have to go to dealer and buy new chrome dip stick bezel and speednut for new chrome cover.....you cannot remove oil stick bezel from old cover without breaking it, so just leave it on old cover and buy new one.......6 bucks
