Default Sportster Sound Systems

Anyone have experience with the Cycle Sounds sound sytems?
http://www.cyclesounds.com//index.ph...;products_id=3

They make a mini system - 2" bullet speakers and a 100w amp (50x2)for sportsters for iPods / MP3 players.

I normally wear a small skid lid and using earbuds is an invitation for a ticket - not to mention a safety issue.

I was curious if anyone has used them or heard them - I run V&H Straight Shots and they are LOUD.

Thanks

I know it's an individual preference, but what Iwant in the way ofmusicwhen riding are my pipes and the surrounds of the scenery.

Installed one last week... They look great and sound good. As to volume?... Once you settle into a cruise, they're OK... you have to crank it up, but it's pretty good. Running through gears or at higher RPM's, they get drowned out. Also, depends on the music yer playin. Hard rock is better. Also, I've got SE slipons... with straight shots?? Probably be less audible. I mean, the system is loud, but they are only 2" speakers. When I come to a stop/idle with it playing at a volume that's audible while driving... they're blasting. For my bike, the look and sound was worth the price. Your mileage may vary

The amp plugs right in to the wiring harness? What mount did you use for your iPod/MP3 ? I want something real small.
Also - which system did you get? - the standard one or the premium one?

Thanks for your input.

Also - ETA - Where did you get yours? I can't find anyone that discounts them. ($400)

In my case, no. I did buy the T-Tap they offer, but it didn't fit my '08. No idea if it'd work on yours. I hooked it up by buying this relay (the single one). My bike has an accessory plug under the seat, but it's *always* hot. Rather than put a switch inline somewhere, I just wired the relay to the hot wire, grounded it to the frame, and used the running light circuit for the relay trigger. If you're handy with wiring and have a test light, it's easy.

The relay came with all the wire taps/connectors (posi-lock) I just needed to crimp on a couple spade connectors and shrink wrap it up nicely. You'll need to raise the tank to run the power to the front. There's also a lot of extra speaker wire if you mount the amp where I did (see this thread for pix) so you'll need to cut/resolder those if you want to clean it up, though I haven't done that yet...

I didn't use their mounts... too big. I just attached my iPod shuffle to the left grip. Still messing with placement though... I did get a Clip-it mount. It's a much better mount than what they offer. Nice and small.

Standard. The premium one wasn't available. Looks like it'd be louder, but for my purposes it's too big

chromeglow.com. It was on sale for like 340 or 50?? Looks like it's not now though Good luck! I really like mine!

It would probably sound better if you had a windshield, Let me know hoe they sound because I'm thinking of getting the same system and have the same pipes as you do.

I actually agree, and if I'm riding in the hills I'll turn it off. I also commute on my bike though, and when I'm crawling along on city streets in traffic, blasting some tunes sure is nice.

It's not too much different really, I mostly run a WS, but even without it it's roughly the same. Honestly though, with the pipes you guys have... I'd look at the premium system. My SE slipons sometimes drown it out the standard one but I can live with it. Ya know... 'cuz it looks awesome. LOL. It'd really suck for you to spend that kinda $$ and not be able to hear it though! Just my 2 cents...

I installed thestandard system (50W x 2) last week. It's loud, but with SEIIs it's hard to hear at highway speeds. A windshield does help in my experience. The premium system would be better at higher speeds.

I did have a little trouble mounting the speakers on my '01 XL1200C's drag bars. The Cycle Sounds pic for the sporty kit doesn't show the mouning brackets that come with the kit. They're z brackets that mount under the mirror stems. Wouldn't clear the tank in my case. Had to mount them above the hand controls with custom spacers & hardware. I'm using custom mirrors too, so the stem thread length wasn't an issue. The p-clamps they show are available at another $30 to mount the speakers on the handlebars.

I'm using an ipod shuffle velcroed to the bar clamp.

PS: they do have 2 different t-tap kits, one for pre '03 & one for later models.

PSS: Got mine off ebay. Made the seller an offer & got it for $365 shipped.

Figures... the "new" one wasn't available when I bought mine [:@] Guess it's just as well... didn't cut any wires, and it on a separate fused relay now...
