I see the 1st gear ratio is slightly taller than stock which in my opinion is already too tall. The ratios for the Baker gearset are based on a 27 tooth countershaft pulley mine is 28 so that is taller yet. You'd have to go 80 to use 6th, at least that's the way it appears to me.

yeah...

says to shift to 6th around 70-75...

with my one experience on the highway on my bike...883
that's where it really needs that extra gear..

one reason i hate to ride on the highway...at 70+ too much strain on the motor..
vibration...etc.

would like to know if anyone has had a 6th gear ona sportie..and if it really helped with
engine strain and vibration at highway speeds.

wonder if it would be a worthwhile investment...?

would you have tochange drivebelt pulley's?

still a lot of Q's.

I think it would work. I'm not a mechanic or a whiz at gear ratios, but as an ignorant layman who doesn't know crap about the mechanics of it, it sounds great in theory, anyway. I personally don't think Sportsters necessarily NEED a sixth gear, but it's a nice thought. I'm constantly looking for that elusive "sixth gear" merging onto highways! Not because I think I need an extra gear; I'm a government employee and lose count past three!

If I had a Sportster trike, I'd definitely look into one of these, especially with reverse. Since my legs are so damned short leaving precious little leverage to back up the bike I have now, especially on an incline, I can actually envision where a reverse could come in handy....SOMETIMES. But for $2,235.00? I think I'll just keep it the way it is for now.

I wonder what would happen if it could be fit to a Buell Blast? Not very cost effective, to be sure, and somewhat pointless, but IF it could work? Would that make it go faster?

If I was to put one in my bike (probably won't hapen unless I can get a screamin deal on one) I'd change the front pully to an 883 type (27 tooth) to keep the lower end close to where it should be.
I gotta say $2200 is alot of cake to replace the tranny just for the hell of it to get a 6th gear. If you have an 883 you'd be better off spending the $$ on a good 1200/1250 conversion kit and a 28 tooth front pully.
