I'm teaching my girl to ride on my SISTER's 883..... For this exact reason.

There is only ONE person that is allowed to ride my bike...EVER....and that's my sister. She's the only person on Earth I trust with it.

They should start with a dirt bike or something.

I tried teaching my GF on my Buell Blast last year. She stalled it 3 times in the driveway and gave up, lol.
Yeah...the only problem with it is the very very short clutch pull.

my girl rocks a Virago as well... looks like soon a Vrod if this guy will play wiht price a bit... but here is the Virago i built for her... geared, intake, removed baffels, re wired a low rider headlight, fog lights, apes, jetted, led kit, lots more odds and ends... good bike! she is taking it to FL with 10 of us in two weeks from chicago to do the coast line in Key west... 2nd year she has done it with us... she loves to ride...
start your girl on something like this... it has plenty of power, as she gets used to it and wants more open it up and gear it... then see how she does...

Sorry about your bike and glad your g-friend did not get injured bad.

I guess lesson learned: never let a newbie ride your bike.

Well, Yes, for starters it was pretty dumb to demo to her on your BIKE.
That aside, make no mistake the 883 is not a starter bike. It is heavy and weighs the same as any 1200.All Sportstershave good torque and will surprise you.
At over 525 pounds, an 883 is the last bike I would start anyone on.
DO the 250CC Honda or some other brand.
DO NOT GET A HEAVY 883 OR ANY OTHER HARLEY.
STUPID IDEA

I tried to teach my wife and ended up in the ER with a broken Knee! She doesn't want to learn anymore. It was a 250 Ninja. Was.

Well thanks for your support everyone. She actually felt so bad she wants to buy everything to fix my bike. I feel bad cause I know it was my mistake letting her crash that thing in the first place. She cried afterwards..cause she knows how much I love that bike. I pretty much have everything fixed up, rewired my new brake/turn signal in and the levers are on the way. Other than that the bars will be taken off and will be trying to fix em at my work if not, then hello drags[8D]

TDOG-

I started on an 883!!!!! and yeah, you're right, it was a bit much to begin with. It took me a while to get confident and I wondered if I should have started out on something smaller.

My wife wants to learn to ride and I think she should start on something like a suzuki savage or a rebel.
