This is what I did, I drilld a small hole and put in a steel screw in to it. Now I need a screwdriver to take it off, but it's worth it to me...

Hi, On my 08 1200C my cover came loose but did not drop off, checked it out and found the top front clip was moving when tring to "pop" cover on, also front edge of cover was hitting wires not letting it go on all the way. I put a small sheet metal scew in the clip right above where the cover slides in and this tightened up the clip to the frame, then I ground off the front edge of the cover a little at a time (keeping it cool with water so you don't turn the chrome blue) until it cleared wires. No more problems with mine.
