Engine Noise
I’ve got a ‘08 XL1200C, K&N, SE Slip-ons, and the download. At 1000 miles I changed over to Mobil 1 v-Twin, and I have about 1250 miles on it now.
OK, so here is the problem. Well, I don’t know if it is a problem or not, but its bugging me a little. When I put the SE pipes on I started to notice what sounds like very loud valve noise at about 25-45mph. After 60 she purrs real nice, and at slow speeds she lugs along just fine.
I’m just wondering if it’s typical for a sporty to have some resonance in this speed range. This is my first Harley, so I don’t have any other experience to compare it to.

RE: Engine Noise
Topend engine noise is pretty common with the Sporty. I'd say you're fine. Sometimes I think we just notice it more than other times. A couple of weeks ago, I thought I heard a new noise in the upper end (after over 30,000 miles). Then the noise was gone. Over 1,500 miles later, sounds like normal.

Top end on mine is pretty noisy;has been since after about the first100miles. Disconcerting at first, but I don't take much notice now.
