Default Clutch Adjustment

Need to do 5k service I have the Factory service manual, and Fix My Hog Video, jack and necessary tools.

I hate to think of opening the clutch inspection cover to check the clutch adjustment.

Dealer did the 1 K and the adjustment was checked then, I don't ride hard is the adjustment all that necessary?

I do intend to change primary fluid.

YES...you wouldn't think it but after you do it you will feel the differance. It is not hard to do and if you plan on doing your own service than you need to bite the bullet and do it. You also need to adjust your primary chain too.

I always figured if your play at the lever remains the same not needing adjustment then nothing inside should need adjusting. Is that wrong?

yup...the only thing you adjust with the cable is your cable. When you take off the derby cover and adjust the clutch, you are actually adjusting your clutch plates. The friction point comes way up. You really should adjust the clutch, and like I said, it's really is easy to do. If you need detailed instructions I would be more than happy to email them to you.

Yeah, guess I should take a look in there with a little over 9K miles. Clutch works fine though, with all the fuss about getting the bolts out I just never went into it. Been changing tranny oil through the chain cover.I have a manual thanks.

OK, I went in there no adjustment was needed @ 9K. Guess it depends on how much you slip the clutch. No trouble with the bolts though. At least I know.

Default RE: Clutch Adjustment

I have only adjusted my clutch once. I think that was at the 15,000 mile service. I did adjust it several times around 25,000 miles, but adjustment wasn't the problem then. The Spring plate had totally come apart. And no, that wasn't due to a lack of maintenance to the clutch. Just a defective spring plate.

Just be careful with that quad ring, if you open up the derby cover. Those can be a real pain to get back in place if they come out.
