Default Stage 1

This might sound stupid but never had anything like this done before.
But I am looking at getting the stage1 done here soon, after I get that doneI don't need to haveit done again? I mean when I take it back for the 5000 miles check up will I need to get it done again etc? Or once you get it done that's it, never have to worry about it again...
Thanks

Seeing as you have a 08 Sporty, a stage 1 is different pipes or slip on mufflers and a better flowing air cleaner and some kind of module to control the fuel like a PC III, Sert, Fuel Pak etc.

After you do those that is it, no need to keep replacing those parts every scheduled service

I havent done the stage one yet. I can twist wrenches ,do it all to often, but to be honest I dont know the ins and outs of carbs on bikes....and sceered to mess with it. Someone correct me if I am wrong but stage one is jets and needle valves (carb models)and a nice shiny breather. And other than maybe having an adjustment you only need to do it once.

I have the V&H slip ons now, took it to my dealer for the 1000 mile check up and they told me the bike rides ok but if I want to get the bike running better I should do the stage 1. The said all I have to get is the high flow air cleaner and get the download done since I already have the slip ons. They said it would be around $540 for the air cleaner, download, labor does that sound high?
And thanks for the quick responds

Personally I would not waste my money with Harley's stage 1.
It has never done anything on any Harley I have owned.

The true "stage 1" would be a good air cleaner like the arlen ness big sucker with a power commander or cobra fi2000 fuel injection tuner. The best on the market is Harleys screamin eagle race tuner. Harley will dyno your bike after you get the pipes and air cleaner of your choice installed.

I true dyno will make your bike run the best. Most Harley dealers will only dyno it if you have the screamin eagle race tuner though.

If you want an "out of the box" setup, try the cobra fi2000.

The power commander is good if you have a laptop and can find the program to match your pipes and air cleaner.

So right now just running my slip ons is not harming my bike at all I just don't get the full power of the motor I should be getting. But down the road if I do the Stage 1 with the power commanderand arlen air cleaner I would be gettting the most out of the motor and bike?
Well I guess I got to but that on the back burnner for a little longer to get the right stuff.
Thanks

Running your bike with the Slip ons is fine. Just if you want to get more performance in addition to the better sound you got from the pipes, you'll need to do the air cleaner and fuel re-map.

ausmith73, the carb work is really not a big deal. I had NEVER done any carb work, and limited wrenching. I'm an accountant.

I followed these procedures and all worked out great!!

I couldn't believe it when I had the carb off the bike, and in my vise going at it with a drill, but it was all OK!!

I was afraid to do the rejet also. But I followed the instructions on here and it was easy.I didn't even take the carb completly off,and I drilled out the plug too.

Thanks for the links SportyPig.
I just picked up some SEII's, and was going to wait for the re-jets until I could afford to get it done.
I'll try it myself.

What do you recommend for the AC ?

Plenty of good a/c options. I went with the Screamin Eagle, but that was mostly because I like the stock "ham can" look.
