Almost Got Hit Today

RE: Almost Got Hit Today
Ya know, normally I DO use both brakes at the same time. I was taught that and I use both 99.99999% of the time. I did use both but for some STUPID reason hit the rear first. Probably because it took me so completely by surprise. I generally can get a darned good idea whats about to happen, but this time... I AM gonna go practice emergency stops more often. Better to be more prepared.
I did hollar a few choice words(words I would NEVER repeat here )at the guy. He had his window open, so I'm sure he heard me.

Joan, glad you came out all right. Did you stop and give the guy a 'how come, what for' lecture.....sometimes it happens so fast, one doesn't have time to think front brake/rear brake stopping.
Car drivers all need to go back to driving school.

There is ALWAYS time to "think" about front brake / rear brake stopping. Proper use of brakes on motorcycles is absolutely vital to the rider's survival.
The front brake of a motorcycle provides 70% of the stopping power. This means that if you "don't have time" to use the front brake, you sure as hell don't have the space to give up 70% of your stopping power.
If braking with front and rear isn't second nature and you have to think about it, you MUST go out and practice your emergency stops.
Good braking WILL save your life. This cannot be stressed enough.

you probably DID hit both brakes at the same time! You just likely hit the rear one harder than usual, and a lot quicker, too. IOW, it's a lot easier locking up that rear than it is the front. I need to work on my emergency stopping, too.

Can't honestly say WHAT happened, except that the rear locked up. I'm extremely thankful that the pavement was dry. Had it beenwet.... well...

No worries, I used to lock my rear brake all the time and now I learn not to. On a panic stop, I apply front brake gradually, downshift then rear brake, this way the bike stops fast and straight.
