Default Help lowering the back end 2006 Sportster

I am running 10 inch struts which I like the look of and how much it lowers my bike. But I am tired of the wabble in curves, especially when hitting curves at 60+.

I cannot find any shorter shocks fora rubber mounted Sportster. I found a couple of 1 inch lowering kits, but I would rather lower it more than that if possible.

How did you lower your Sportster?

your best bet would be Licks Cycles 10" shocks or just get the progressive 412's like everybody else

Will the progressive 412's fit? All I see in the JP Catalog on the 412's is for up to 2004 Sportster models.

don't know of anything else other than the lowering brackets... if you go lower, won't it hit bottom?

It might, but I wouldn't think so. Even if it did I would be okay since I am running struts right now it wouldn't be much different. I just have to get rid of the wobbles. I was heading onto I85 this morning and there was a line of truckers. I rolled on the throttle to about 90 on the curved entry ramp, hit a bump and the front fork was all over the place. A true pucker moment.

i have an 06 and just put on the 11inch 412 progressives. It lowered my bike an inch and the handling seems great.

That wobble your talking about is the difference in rake/trail since you've dropped the rear more than 2" and the front remains stock hgt. thus affecting the trail, not to mention thestock front springs being spongy. Raise the tubes in the trees or lowering kit fork springs from progressive and I bet your handling will improve dramatically. By the way, I can guarantee that if you get 10-10.5" shocks you will bottom out on the wiring tube under the fender and your front end will still wander in the corners until you level it more.

Everytime I go outside and look at the Sportster and think of going back to shocks, I just feel sad. She looks so purty with the struts. Maybe I will stay with the struts a bit longer.

I was in the process of fabracating a set of 9-3/8 inch (shortest that are safe to ride). I might go ahead and finish them just in case I stay with the struts.

I put 1.25 inch spacers in the front fork tubes to get rid of the sag. Actually they were matching 3/4 inch drive sockets. Go ahead and call me cheap.

So I need to drop the front end down? I kind of liked the front end up and back end low, but I will drop it an inch and give it a try.
