Default oil pressure

Hi Im new here my name is Jon.I recently purchased a 1979 Sportser. It had a few minor issues I streightend them out and got it running. It has sata while inside has 13,000 miles. It was last rode 7 months or so ago.It started right up ran great but it had wireing issues with the starter relay.Anyway I got it worked out and started it again today and noticed the oil light on and the lifters ticking.I shut it off imediatly pulled the oil filter and there is metal in the filter. Is there a common problem with oil pumps on these 1000cc engines?

I guess my first question has to be: About how many times and how often have the oil and oil filter been changed in the last 28 years?

These notors have solid lifters and need adjusting. Change the oil if you havent already and pull the oil pressure switch and check it, hell replace it they dont cost much. Maybe the wiring issues also are in yhat circuit. Also iron heads are noisy I would be looking into the metal on the filter though.

I pulled the side cover off.The oil pump gear is gone.I cought it at a good time.It only ran a couple seconds. If I was rideing down the road it would meant a engine now is just a oil pump.
