Here is some BS for ya. Purchased and had dealer install heated grips on the wifes nightster last May. Only used them a few time, warm weather=no need.Then fall came and we went on a longweekend color cruise and thethrottle side grip stopped working. Talked to my dealer about it and we just decided to wait until spring when I broughtthe bike in for the 5k service.The wifewas done riding for the season, so no big deal. So Itake the bike in for the 5k and to get the grips fixed and they inform me that the right side grip is only under warranty for 30 days. Tells me they knowthere is a problem, since the left side iscovered for 1 year.

So basically Iwasted$400 on thesedam things.Dealer said theycould install another set for another $400. They must think I'm stupid, whywould I spend the money nowwhen the warranty will be up beforeshe ever needs touse them.

 

The Motor Company has realized there's a problem with the grips and has issued a Service Bulletin (Jan. 10, '08) extending the left grip warranty to one year. The switch/thermostat is in the left grip and may be the source of the problem in the right grip. I hate to bash a dealership, but it sounds like they're full of it. Ask for the phone # for Mother Harley'sCustomer Service. Call it and state your case. The MoCo seems more willing to satisfy an individual customer than it is to back-up a dealership.If your present dealer will not be cooperative and at least attempt to warranty the grips, get that customer service # and CALL IT!

As far as I know, all electrical parts made by Harley carry a 1 month warranty, I am told by the local Harley dealer in Vancouver BC here. Your case might be different, hopefully they will exchange it.

 

and if the dealer does not take care of it, never,ever, spend a dime there again. Buy the Kurayakin set for half price or less on line.

 

I had mine installed in October. Used 'em most of the winter (riding season? What's that?)

Minework like they are supposed to, but my question about what the dealer told you....they are SOLD as a set, right? Then wouldn't it stand to reason that they be warranted as a set? If they warrant the items separarately, then they should replace the damn thing separately, too! Yeah, I think that's BS, bigtime! If they continue to be an *** about it, I think they could be repaired if that's the last resort. IF you can somehow get to the wiring inside. Sounds like a short, but it could very well be originating from the left side. Whatever and wherever it is, though, it's a pain in the butt to trace the wiring all the way from the power source, to the switch, to the right side of the grip where it's not heating. Hope you get it resolved, because those things aren't cheap, and they SHOULD work!

Consumer laws vary from state to state so it may be worth looking into if its legal in your state to sell a product and have two different warrenties depending on wich side malfunctions. I'm no lawyer but I do own a company and it is a lot cheaper to replace the grips than higher an attorney, take them to small claims court insome states the companey still have to have a lawyer.

 

I bought my nightster in November and was going to have harley heated grips installed. I bought them for my boyfriends bike and he put them on for this winters riding. anyway the dealer was supposed to have the ones i wanted in stock but it turned out he didn't. good thing because i ended finding out that they suck anyway and usually stop working. the other good reason is because the dealer also told me that if i drove my bike off the lot and then came back to get the grips installed when they came in they would not be covered under warranty at all.
if you are going to replace them get heat demon grips. i have them and they ROCK. thankfully the boyfriends are still working but it has only been one winter. i am sure they won't last from what we have heard

 

My buddy Had the right side go out after one season and he complained also. He is a certified tech for a major auto dealer, and he installed the grips himself, and he mentioned that the wires could twist with the throttle and strain the connection so he was extra careful installing them. Went to the Stealer and they told him the same thing, out of warranty and they sugguested buying a new set. He complained that the left one is working fine, and made them look up the parts and he said you can buy each grip individually, but they are more than 50% of the set cost each. He did buy the single throttle replacement grip and swapped them out, and said if these fail he is going with another brand. He really loved riding in winter with them on.
