Default Mini Ape Install

I started on my Mini Ape and new cable install tonight after work on the Nightster.
Everything is going good so far.
I've got the tank off, Throttle cables, Brake line, and all controls off the handlebars.
I got the old handlebars off and decided to stop for the night.
I couldn't get the left foot peg off to take the clutch cable off, because I didn't have a big enough hex nut, so will have to pick that up tomorrow.

So after work tomorrow, I will be soldering the wires to get the extra length for the new bars and then putting everything back together.
I forgot to get brake fluid, so that will have to wait until Monday

The scoot is looking pretty naked right now, but the service manual was probably the best purchase I've made so far.

It's nice to get familiar with taking everything apart on the new bike, and I'm excited to be able to do all maintenance myself.

I've had to buy some new tools, but the price is more than made up in the 4 hours of labor I would have had to pay the dealer.

Sounds like you're on your way...

I didn't remove my foot peg... but I have forward controls... so that might be the difference...

Anyway... waiting for the pics...

Glad I did mine myself also. Never worked on bikes before and learned a lot in the process. It's a good introduction to your bike. Good luck today. I made about 3 trips for tools I didn't have.

I'll try to get pics tonight when I get home.
Does anyone happen to know the size of hex bit I'll need to remove the left foot peg mount?
I do have mid controls, so mount covers the clutch cable.
I would look at the service manual, but it's at home also and thought maybe I could save a trip and just grab the tools I
need on the way home.

How much did you pay for new cables?

The total cost for the cables and bars was $350 including tax. I received a10% discount since I bought the bike there.
You can get 20% off at chicago HD if you order them online, but I didn't want to wait. Here's the costs of the cables.
Here the MSRP for the cables and part numbers I used. These are for the Diamondback Braided cables.
Throttle/Idle Cable 38906-07 $129.95
Brake Cables 38909-07 $69.95
Clutch Cable 38879-07 $89.95

What about wiring?

Wiring was pretty inexpensive. I think I spent $20 for some Automotive wiring and a few bucks for
some shrink tubing once I'm done soldering.

I believe you can get some extenders that plug into your existing harnesses, but the dealer said
they don't look good because you can see the end on the outside of the bike when installed.
I'm not sure what they cost.
I've soldered electronics before, so wires aren't too big of a deal for me.
